Compassionate Recovery From Food Addiction
Welcome everyone. Compassionate Recovery From Food Addiction is a space for recovery, connection and freedom from judgment. We aim for a feeling of safety and accessibility - we aim to provide support .
Our guiding principles is for a 12-step recovery focused on compulsive eating.
The central covenant is that members should not leave the program, as doing so allows the disease to win. The ideals emphasize that recovery is more than just physical abstinence—it also requires emotional and spiritual growth. Key points include:
- Recovery is holistic: True recovery involves more than counting days of abstinence; it is about ongoing personal growth.
- No guilt or shame: Relapse is seen as part of the disease, and members should not feel guilt or shame about it.
- Personal responsibility: Members are accountable only to themselves and a compassionate Higher Power, not to sponsors or other members.
- Openness and respect: All opinions are respected, and there are no gurus or leaders. The group remains open to new ideas and interpretations.
- Individualized spirituality: Finding a Higher Power is a personal journey, and disbelief is not a barrier to recovery.
- Empowerment: Members are adults with agency and should not be talked down to. Food choices are personal, but discussing them with others can help ensure decisions are not influenced by the disease.
- Diversity in recovery: There are many valid ways to work the program, and success is measured by not using food as a crutch and achieving happiness and freedom.
- Supportive outreach: Members in relapse are seen as victims, not perpetrators, and the group supports them through sharing personal experiences rather than prescribing solutions.
Overall, this podcast promotes a compassionate, non-judgmental, and flexible approach to recovery, centered on personal growth, mutual respect, and ongoing support.
